Checking your system for leaks, crooked heads, improperly adjusted nozzles, and leaking valves is essential every year.
With Calgarys cold winters, a blowout is also essential to preserve your sprinkler parts as best as possible.

During the blowout, valves may not be closed all the way and it is impossible to tell without water to the system. If a zone is running make sure all solenoids and bleed screws in your valve box are hand tight.
If the zone is still running after you tighten everything, you may need to book an appointment as there could be a broken valve part or debris inside the valve.
